Troubleshooting
Common problems, quick solutions.
"My streak reset but I checked in yesterday"
MainQuest uses a 3 AM day boundary instead of midnight. If you checked in before 3 AM, that check-in counted for the previous day, not the new one.
To maintain your streak, make sure you check in at least once between 3 AM today and 3 AM tomorrow. The 3 AM boundary is designed to accommodate late-night routines β if you are active past midnight, your activity still counts for the current day.
"Iβm not earning XP anymore"
You have likely hit the daily XP cap of 100. MainQuest limits XP earned per day to encourage consistent daily effort rather than marathon sessions.
The cap resets at 3 AM. You can still complete quests and check in on habits after hitting the cap β the completions are recorded, but no additional XP is awarded until the reset.
"My data isnβt syncing"
The mobile app uses an offline-first sync strategy. Data is stored locally on your device and pushed to the server when you have an internet connection.
Try these steps:
- Check that your device has an active internet connection.
- Open the app settings and trigger a force sync.
- Close and reopen the app to restart the sync service.
- If the issue persists, check if your account is signed in on both devices.
"My character died"
Your HP reached 0, triggering death. While dead, all gameplay is blocked β you cannot complete quests, check in on habits, or earn XP.
To revive, a friend must send you a Second Chance Scroll. Revival restores your HP to 50. If you do not have friends on MainQuest yet, use the Friends & Revival guide to learn how to add them.
Note: Death mechanics are mobile-only. The web app tracks HP but does not enforce death.
"Quest abandoned accidentally"
Quest abandonment is permanent and cannot be undone. When you abandon a quest, a -10 HP penalty is applied immediately.
Be careful with the abandon button. If you are unsure about a quest, consider leaving it active rather than abandoning it β there is no penalty for having incomplete quests in your list.
"Habit check-in wonβt toggle off"
This is by design. Daily habit check-ins are immutable β once you check in for the day, it cannot be toggled off or undone.
This prevents accidental streak breaks and ensures that check-in data remains reliable. If you checked in by mistake, the check-in will stand. Tomorrow is a new day.
"Dawn Scroll didnβt activate Clarity Buff"
The Clarity Buff (1.2x XP for 4 hours) requires your Dawn Scroll entry to meet a 30-word minimum. If your entry was shorter than 30 words, the buff will not activate.
Write a full journal entry β reflect on your goals, plan your day, or free-write. As long as you hit 30 words, the buff will activate.
Note: The Clarity Buff and Dawn Scrolls are mobile-only features. See the Dawn Scrolls guide for details.
"Differences between mobile and web"
MainQuest's mobile and web apps share the same core gameplay but have different feature sets. Several features β including death mechanics, XP modifiers, Surge mode, and push notifications β are currently mobile-only.
For a complete breakdown, see the Platform Differences guide, which includes a full feature comparison table.
