MainQuest Glossary

Every game term, defined and cross-referenced.

A

Accountability Pact
A shared bond between 2 and 6 people, tracked by a single Bond HP number that starts at 100. Clear 70% of your daily habits and quests and the group gains HP; fall short and it loses more than it gained. Consecutive cleared days build rank — Ember, Iron, Flame, Ironclad, Oathbound, Eternal — up to a permanent +15% XP bonus. See the Accountability Pact guide.
Achievement
A milestone reward across five categories — Quests, Streaks, Skills, Exploration, Special. Unlocking one grants XP (exempt from the daily cap) and a Relic, a display-only collectible — not an inventory item. See the Achievements guide.
Attribute
A character stat (e.g., Strength, Intelligence) that grows from habit check-ins. Each habit links to one or more attributes. See the Classes & Attributes guide.
Awakening Trial
The onboarding flow that decides your Pro vs. free entitlement when you first create a character. New accounts are seeded with a First Beat — a synthetic starter quest — so the Awakening flow has something to complete.

B

Bond HP
The shared health number in an Accountability Pact — not to be confused with a pet's Bond, a completely separate, unrelated number despite the shared name. See Accountability Pact.
Bond (Pet)
How consistently you've fed your pet — a permanent, ever-climbing number capped at 25. Unrelated to Bond HP in an Accountability Pact, despite the shared name. See Pet.
Breadcrumbs
A focus session mode that breaks work into small 5–10 minute blocks, ticking a box after each one for a quick hit of progress instead of one long timer. See the Focus Sessions guide.

C

Challenge
A self-contained arena of gated trials paying out in Embercoin and items. Only a couple of arenas are actually playable today — most are Coming Soon placeholders. See the Challenges guide.
Chronicle
A day-grouped timeline of your activity. Your completed quests show up here automatically; writing a reflection or goal during your End of Day Review adds an optional note to that day's entry. See the Your Stats guide.
Clarity Buff
A 1.2x XP multiplier lasting 4 hours, boosting quests and habit check-ins alike. Earned by writing a Dawn Scroll of at least 30 words — works the same way on mobile and web.
Class
One of 16 fixed archetypes (Warrior, Scholar, Sage, and more), each with 3 locked core attributes. You can rename it, write your own creed, and add up to 3 custom attributes on top — free accounts get 1 class slot, Pro unlocks up to 3. See the Classes & Attributes guide.

D

Dawn Scroll
A morning journaling entry — write at least 30 words (100 in optional Monk Mode) to activate the Clarity Buff. Vanishing ink, an optional mobile-only effect (off by default), fades the top of your entry as you type; neither platform stores your actual words afterward. See the Dawn Scrolls guide.
Death
When your HP reaches 0, your character dies and gameplay is blocked until revival — a real full-screen moment on both mobile and web. Revive by spending a Second Chance Scroll — your own, or one a friend spends on you — restoring you to 50 HP. See the HP, XP & Death guide.
Dungeon
A map-based trial system with objectives and boss encounters — built, but the Realm Map it lives on hasn't opened yet, so dungeons aren't reachable in the app today. The Challenges arena is the trial system you can actually play right now.

E

Embercoin
MainQuest's single in-game currency, earned through quests, habits, and streaks. Spend it at the Shop — it can't be traded between players. See the Shop guide.
End of Day Review
The shutdown ritual that recaps your day and lets you choose which unfinished quests carry into tomorrow. Labeled "Daily Review" in the app itself — "Nightly Review" isn't an in-app term. See the End of Day Review guide.

F

Fatigue
A state that halves all XP earned (0.5x) once your exhaustion meter hits 90 or higher. The penalty applies on both platforms, though only mobile currently has the UI to raise or clear it (a Sleep action resets it to 0).
Flowmodoro
A focus session mode where you work without a timer until you naturally need a break. The break length is calculated based on how long you worked. See the Focus Sessions guide.
Focus Session
A timed work period using one of five modes: Pomodoro, Timer, Breadcrumbs, Infinite Focus, or Flowmodoro. Focus time — not XP — is what counts toward the Leaderboard. See the Focus Sessions guide.

G

Grow Again
A prestige loop available once a pet maxes out its Level. Send it back into a fresh egg — same species, same personality — for a whole new arc from the beginning. See Pet.

H

Habit
A recurring daily behavior you check in on. Check-ins award subpoints toward linked attributes and build streaks. You can undo a check-in the same day you made it; once the day rolls over, it's permanent. See the Habits guide.
Habit Link
A chain of habits completed in sequence on the same day, shown in-app as a Routine. Finishing the whole chain builds its own link streak, separate from each habit's individual streak — there's no extra XP for it, just the streak and its celebration. Creating a chain is a Pro feature. See the Habit Links guide.
HP (Health Points)
Your character's health, ranging from 0 to 100. You lose HP from things like quitting a quest mid-focus-session (-10), logging a negative habit (-10), or abandoning a Challenge (-20). Leveling up fully restores HP to 100. At 0 HP, your character dies — on both mobile and web. See the HP, XP & Death guide.

I

Infinite Focus
A focus session mode with no timer at all — an open-ended stopwatch for sessions where you don't want to plan the length in advance. See the Focus Sessions guide.
Inventory
A collection of items earned from quests, achievements, and other activities. Items carry a rarity tier and can be equipped or consumed; duplicates sell back to the system — never to another player — for Embercoin. See the Inventory guide.

K

Kodan
MainQuest's AI companion. Chat with it to create, edit, or check off quests and habits, or ask it to take you straight to any screen in the app. Kodan is a separate system from your pet — your companion doesn't talk; Kodan does.

L

Leaderboard
Weekly, monthly, and all-time rankings based on accumulated focus session time. See the Leaderboard guide.
Level
Your overall character progression rank. Each level requires 100 + (level - 1) x 10 XP, and leveling up fully restores HP to 100. Pets track their own, unrelated Level — see Pet.

M

Mana
MainQuest's hydration tracking system — log water to fill your Mana bar, which resets at midnight (a different clock than the game's usual 3 AM day boundary). Mana isn't just cosmetic: a Shard of Life consumable can convert it straight into HP. See the Mana & QuickCast guide.
Microversion
A scaled-down fallback version of a habit you define for days when the full version feels like too much. A microversion check-in keeps your streak fully intact — the point is momentum, not the reward.
Morning Routine
A customizable checklist of small tasks to complete each morning, earning XP on completion. Dawn Scrolls is a separate feature usually paired with it, not one of the checklist items itself. See the Morning Routine guide.

N

Nudge
A message you can send to an Accountability Pact partner who hasn't yet cleared their day — but only once you've already cleared your own, and only once every rolling 24 hours. See the Accountability Pact guide.

O

Objective
A sub-task within a quest. Quests can have multiple objectives that must be completed individually before the quest itself is finished.
Overflow Cache
A temporary holding area for item grants that arrive while your Vault is full. Items sit here for a limited window before they expire, so it's worth clearing space rather than letting them sit. See the Inventory guide.

P

Party
The same underlying group system as an Accountability Pact, built to be reused for co-op group play in a future release — today, the Pact is the part of it you can actually use.
Pet
A companion that hatches from an egg — a Pro perk, or bought in the Shop with Embercoin. Feed it through quests, habits, and focus sessions (capped at 3 feeds a day) and it hatches after 14 feeds, shaped by how consistently you fed it. Two separate numbers track its growth afterward: Bond (climbs with every feed) and Level (grows only from real focus-session time, and is what actually triggers its full-screen Evolution). See the Pets System guide.
Pomodoro
A focus session mode using the classic technique: 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break. See the Focus Sessions guide.

Q

Quality Rating
A 1-to-5 star self-rating you give a quest on completion. A perfect 5-star rating earns a bonus 10 Embercoin, capped at 3 bonuses a day. See the Quests guide.
Quest
A one-time task that awards XP on completion. Quests have four difficulty levels — Easy, Medium, Hard and Epic — plus optional objectives and deadlines. Abandoning a quest costs 10 HP. See the Quests guide.
Quest Wager
A built-but-unreleased bet on a quest, powered by a Resolve Token: complete the quest within 24 hours for a bonus, or take an HP hit. The token isn't obtainable yet, so the mechanic isn't live today.
Quick-Add
A fast lane for creating a lightweight Quest on web — no difficulty prompt, slotted in at Easy tier automatically. Starts at 8 XP, same as any Easy quest, and scales the same way with age and buffs if left uncompleted. Replaced the standalone Shard task type. (On mobile, small tasks go through the regular quest form for now.) See the Quick-Add & Surge guide.
QuickCast
Up to 4 shortcut slots equipped from a fixed catalog of 7 preset actions (Water Intake, Healthy Snack, Power Burst, Micro-Clean, Brain Dump, Box Breathing, Sunlight Sync) — not user-defined custom actions, which are planned but still Coming Soon. Most presets map to a Class attribute and award a stat point on use; most cap at 2 uses a day (Water Intake is unlimited). See the Mana & QuickCast guide.

R

Relic
The collectible an Achievement grants — display-only, with a rarity tier, and shown in your Reliquary grouped by 10 Constellation Arms (a different grouping than the achievements' own 5 categories). See the Achievements guide.
Rest Mode
A break you can flag on your account (up to roughly 30 days a year) that excuses every habit from streak jeopardy for its duration — including any Accountability Pact you're in. See the Habits guide.

S

Sanctuary Stone
A consumable that protects your streaks from exactly one bad day — spent automatically the moment you open the Habits screen after the miss, and one stone rescues every habit that missed just that one day. See the Habits guide.
Second Chance Scroll
A rare item (300 Embercoin in the Shop) a friend can send to revive your character after death. Revival restores your HP to exactly 50. See the Friends & Revival guide.
Shard of Life
A consumable that converts your banked Mana straight into HP, at a rate of 100 Mana for 1 HP. See the Mana & QuickCast guide.
Shop
A small, fixed lineup of items — potions, an XP buff, pet eggs — always available for Embercoin. The Wandering Merchant is built to sit alongside it with a rotating stock, but he isn't findable until the Realm Map opens. See the Shop guide.
Skill
A trackable area of expertise (e.g., "JavaScript," "Drawing"). You log hours to skills manually or through focus sessions and track weekly and lifetime progress. See the Skills guide.
A habit-streak protection you can use twice within any rolling 7 days, bridging a day you didn't check in without breaking your streak. See the Habits guide.
Story Mode
A narrative system with 3 factions. Choose one during the Monday-to-Wednesday selection window and follow weekly story chapters driven by your productivity. Built and functional, but currently hidden from navigation on both platforms — not something you can reach in the app yet. See the Story Mode guide.
Streak
The number of consecutive days you have checked in on a habit, using the 3 AM day boundary. Skip Today, a Sanctuary Stone, and Rest Mode can each bridge a missed day before a streak actually breaks.
Subpoints
Attribute points earned from habit check-ins — 5 for a light habit, 10 for medium, 15 for hard. Every 10 subpoints levels up the linked attribute.
Surge Mode
A rapid-fire completion mode, available on mobile and web. Activate Surge to quickly sweep multiple open Quests in sequence for fast XP. See the Quick-Add & Surge guide.

V

Vault
Where your items live. Duplicates sell back to the system for Embercoin, priced by rarity tier — except the rarest tier, which never sells. A full Vault pauses new item grants into the Overflow Cache instead of losing them. See the Inventory guide.

W

Wandering Merchant
An NPC with a rotating daily stock, built and real — but he wanders the Realm Map, which hasn't opened yet, so he isn't findable in the app today. See the Shop guide.
Wardrobe
Cosmetic outfitting for what you own. The Pet Wardrobe (cosmetics for your companion) is live; the character/avatar Wardrobe is fully built but currently switched off pending art, so it isn't available to players yet. See the Inventory guide.
Whetstone
A Shop consumable that boosts quest XP by 50% and raises your daily XP cap to 250, for 24 hours. A rarer Greater Whetstone version pushes both further. See the Shop guide.

X

XP (Experience Points)
Points earned by completing quests and habits. Required XP per level = 100 + (level - 1) x 10. Daily cap of 100 XP, resetting at 3 AM — though a Whetstone buff can raise the cap, and achievement XP bypasses it entirely. See the HP, XP & Death guide.
