MainQuest Glossary
Every game term, defined and cross-referenced.
- Achievement
- A badge or title unlocked by hitting specific milestones. Achievements are grouped into five categories and can reward inventory items. See the Achievements guide.
- Attribute
- A character stat (e.g., Strength, Intelligence) that grows from habit check-ins. Each habit links to one or more attributes. See the Classes & Attributes guide.
- Clarity Buff
- A 1.2x XP multiplier that lasts for 4 hours. Earned by completing a Dawn Scroll entry that meets the 30-word minimum. Mobile only.
- Class
- An identity label you create for your character (e.g., "Scholar," "Warrior"). Classes define which attributes your hero prioritizes. See the Classes & Attributes guide.
- Dawn Scroll
- A journaling feature in the morning routine. Writing at least 30 words activates the Clarity Buff. On mobile, entries use vanishing ink. See the Dawn Scrolls guide.
- Death
- When your HP reaches 0, your character dies and all gameplay is blocked until revival. A friend must send a Second Chance Scroll to revive you at 50 HP. Mobile only. See the HP, XP & Death guide.
- Fatigue
- A state triggered when your exhaustion reaches 90% or higher. While fatigued, all XP earned is halved (0.5x multiplier). Mobile only.
- Flowmodoro
- A focus session mode where you work without a timer until you naturally need a break. The break length is calculated based on how long you worked. See the Focus Sessions guide.
- Focus Session
- A timed work period using one of four modes: Pomodoro, Timer, Breadcrumbs, or Flowmodoro. Focus time contributes to leaderboard rankings. See the Focus Sessions guide.
- Habit
- A recurring daily behavior you check in on. Check-ins award subpoints toward linked attributes and build streaks. Check-ins are immutable once recorded. See the Habits guide.
- Habit Link
- A chain between two or more habits. Completing all linked habits in a single day awards bonus XP and builds a chain streak. See the Habit Links guide.
- HP (Health Points)
- Your character's health, ranging from 0 to 100. You lose HP by abandoning quests (-10 HP). Leveling up fully restores HP to 100. If HP drops to 0, your character dies (mobile only). See the HP, XP & Death guide.
- Inventory
- A collection of items earned from quests, achievements, and other activities. Items have rarities and can be equipped or consumed. See the Inventory guide.
- Leaderboard
- Weekly, monthly, and all-time rankings based on accumulated focus session time. See the Leaderboard guide.
- Level
- Your overall progression rank. Each level requires 100 + (level - 1) x 10 XP. Leveling up fully restores HP to 100.
- Mana
- MainQuest's hydration tracking system. Each glass of water you log fills a portion of your Mana bar, encouraging consistent daily hydration. See the Mana & QuickCast guide.
- Microversion
- A scaled-down version of a habit designed for days when the full habit feels too hard. Checking in on a microversion still maintains your streak.
- Morning Routine
- A customizable checklist of tasks to complete each morning. Includes Dawn Scrolls and earns XP for completion. See the Morning Routine guide.
- Objective
- A sub-task within a quest. Quests can have multiple objectives that must be completed individually before the quest itself is finished.
- Pomodoro
- A focus session mode using the classic technique: 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break. See the Focus Sessions guide.
- Quest
- A one-time task that awards XP on completion. Quests have difficulty levels from Trivial to Legendary, optional objectives, and deadlines. Abandoning a quest costs 10 HP. See the Quests guide.
- QuickCast
- Up to 4 shortcut slots for frequently used actions. QuickCast slots can trigger habit check-ins, Mana logging, or custom actions with a single tap. See the Mana & QuickCast guide.
- Second Chance Scroll
- An item a friend can send to revive your character after death. Revival restores your HP to 50. See the Friends & Revival guide.
- Shard
- A quick checkbox task worth 5 XP. Shards are lighter than quests and ideal for small, fast actions. See the Shards & Surge guide.
- Skill
- A trackable area of expertise (e.g., "JavaScript," "Drawing"). You log hours to skills manually or through focus sessions and track weekly and lifetime progress. See the Skills guide.
- Story Mode
- A narrative system with three factions. Choose a faction during the Monday-to-Wednesday selection window and follow weekly story chapters driven by your productivity. See the Story Mode guide.
- Streak
- The number of consecutive days you have checked in on a habit. Streaks use the 3 AM day boundary, so late-night check-ins count for the current day.
- Subpoints
- Fractional attribute points earned from habit check-ins. Subpoints accumulate and eventually raise the linked attribute's level.
- Surge Mode
- A mobile-only mode for rapid shard completion. Activate Surge to quickly knock out multiple shards in sequence for fast XP. See the Shards & Surge guide.
- XP (Experience Points)
- Points earned by completing quests. Required XP per level = 100 + (level - 1) x 10. Daily cap of 100 XP, resetting at 3 AM. See the HP, XP & Death guide.
