Feeding the Egg

An egg hatches after 14 feeds — one for every quest, habit, or focus session you complete while it's in your care, capped at 3 a day so you can't cram a companion into existence in one sitting.

Go quiet for a day or two and the egg simply cools — it never punishes you for it. Come back, feed it again, and it warms right back up.

Same Species, Never the Same Companion

Here's the part that makes every companion actually yours: how consistently you fed the egg shapes what hatches. Feed it casually and you get something scrappier and more skittish. Show up steadily and it tempers into something calmer. Show up almost every single day, and what hatches is unmistakably devoted.

Two players can hatch the exact same species and end up with a visibly, behaviorally different companion — because the thing that shaped it was never the species. It was you.

Bond and Level Are Two Different Tracks

Once hatched, your companion tracks two separate numbers. Bond climbs a little every time you feed it — a running, permanent tally of you showing up, and it only ever goes up.

Level is a different animal entirely: it grows only from real focus-session time. Not quests, not habits — the actual minutes you spend heads-down in a focus session. It's the truest measure of the deep work your companion has watched you put in.

The Evolution

Push Level all the way up, and your companion evolves — not as a quiet stat bump buried in a menu, but as a real event: the screen holds its breath, then tremors, then surges into a full-screen transformation that unfolds in stages before settling into what your companion has become.

It's the reward for sustained focus, not for showing up socially — Bond doesn't factor into it at all.

What Your Companion Actually Does For You

An awake companion isn't just for looking at. It quietly gives you a personal XP bonus — one that never touches leaderboards or anyone else's game, just yours. Assign it to a specific habit, and completing that habit while your companion is awake earns you an extra bump in both XP and Embercoin.

It Lives Alongside You

Your companion doesn't talk — that's Kodan's job. Its whole language is mood: content, excited, sleepy, restless, shaped by how recently you've shown up. On mobile, that mood follows you outside the app entirely, mirrored live onto a home-screen widget, so your companion's state is something you glance at, not something you have to open the app to check.

You can hold more than one at a time and pick which one is your featured companion. And if a Pro plan ever lapses, your companion doesn't vanish — it just goes dormant, frozen exactly where it was, waiting for you to come back.

After Max Level

Reach the very top of the Focus track and your companion doesn't just stop — it earns a one-time reward, then offers you the choice to send it back into a fresh egg, same species, same temperament, for a whole new arc from the very beginning.
