How the Habit Creator Works
Every field in the habit form, explained — Kind, Intensity, Attributes, scheduling, and the failsafe Microversion.
The Four Habit Kinds
Not every habit behaves the same way, so the Habit Creator's first real choice is Kind — which of four shapes best fits what you're actually doing:
Standard
A single daily check-in. The default, and the right choice for most habits.
Focusable
Completed via the Focus Timer, not a manual tap — its hours credit a Skill you choose.
Countable
Multi-tap per day, with an optional daily target — leave it blank to complete on the first tap.
Vice
For habits you're trying to break, not build. Each log costs HP instead of earning it.
A Focusable habit needs a Skill to credit its hours to; a Countable habit's target is optional and only applies to that Kind.
Intensity Sets the XP
Every habit also carries an Intensity — Light, Medium, or Hard — and it's the dial that decides the XP a check-in pays:
Every check-in also pays a flat 10 Embercoin, no matter the Intensity, plus subpoints toward whichever Class Attributes you linked the habit to when you created it — the same attribute-growth system Quests feed into.
Scheduling
A habit can run on Every Day, or on Specific Days you pick yourself — a Tuesday/Thursday gym habit doesn't need to nag you on a Sunday.
Instead of scheduling by day, you can pick “Do After Habit...” and choose a habit you already have. If that habit was standalone, this creates a new Habit Link automatically; if it's already chained, your new habit joins that chain.
One Pro Gate to Know
Starting a brand-new chain from scratch requires MainQuest Pro. Adding a fresh habit into a chain you already own stays free either way — see Habit Links for the full chain mechanics and streak rules.
Reminders
Every habit can carry an optional reminder — pick a time, and MainQuest sends a server-side push notification, not a local device alarm. This means the reminder still fires even if the app has been closed or the device restarted since you set it. Same behavior on both mobile and web.
The Failsafe Microversion
Every habit can carry an optional Microversion — the lowest-friction fallback of the real thing. “Read 10 pages” might have “Read 1 page” as its microversion.
“If you can't do the full habit today, do this instead to keep the streak” — the exact copy shown under the Microversion field when you're creating a habit.
On a day the full habit is out of reach, completing the microversion instead still counts and keeps your streak alive. It's optional per habit and doesn't apply to Vice habits, which have no streak to protect.
