Story Mode in MainQuest
Your productivity writes the story. Choose a faction and shape the narrative.
What is Story Mode?
Story Mode is MainQuest's narrative layer that sits on top of your daily productivity. Instead of just completing tasks in a vacuum, your real-life actions feed into an ongoing storyline that unfolds week by week.
Each week presents a new chapter. The direction the story takes depends on two things: which faction you chose and how productive you were during the week. The more quests you complete and habits you check in on, the stronger your faction's position in the narrative.
Story Mode transforms your to-do list into something with stakes and meaning — your effort literally shapes the world.
The Three Factions
At the heart of Story Mode are three factions, each representing a different philosophy and narrative path. When you choose a faction for the week, you are aligning yourself with that faction's goals and storyline.
Faction 1
Each faction offers a unique perspective on productivity and growth, with its own cast of characters and story arcs.
Faction 2
Choosing a different faction each week lets you explore multiple storylines and discover how each philosophy handles the same challenges.
Faction 3
No faction is "better" than another — each offers a valid path with its own rewards and narrative twists.
You are free to switch factions every week. There is no penalty for changing allegiances, so experiment and find the stories that resonate with you.
The Faction Selection Window
Faction selection is not open all week. The selection window runs from Monday through Wednesday. During this window, you can browse the available factions and commit to one for the week.
Weekly timeline:
- Monday–Wednesday: Faction selection window is open. Pick your faction.
- Thursday–Sunday: Selection is locked. Focus on being productive to drive the story.
- End of week: Your weekly chapter unfolds based on faction + productivity.
If you miss the selection window, you will not participate in that week's story chapter. Make sure to check in early in the week.
How Productivity Drives the Story
Story Mode is not passive reading — it is an active system tied to your real-life output. The more productive you are during the week, the more favorable your story outcome.
Productivity is measured through your normal MainQuest activities: completing quests, checking in on habits, and staying consistent with your daily rhythm. You do not need to do anything special — just keep being productive.
Think of it as a reward loop: your effort in the real world is reflected back to you through a narrative that acknowledges your hard work.
Weekly Chapters
Each week, a new chapter is revealed. The chapter content is determined by two factors:
- Your faction choice: Each faction has its own storyline, so the narrative branches based on which faction you selected.
- Your productivity level: Higher productivity during the week leads to more positive story outcomes — victories, breakthroughs, and progress for your faction.
Chapters build on each other over time, creating a long-running narrative that you shape through your choices and actions. Even if you switch factions, the overarching story continues.
This system ensures that Story Mode stays fresh. Every week is a new opportunity to engage with the narrative, and no two weeks play out exactly the same way.
Story Mode and Your Daily Flow
Story Mode integrates seamlessly with your existing MainQuest routine. You do not need to set aside extra time for it. Simply choose your faction at the start of the week, then go about your normal productivity workflow.
Completing quests earns XP and contributes to your faction's progress. Checking in on habits keeps your streaks alive and strengthens your standing. Even using Dawn Scrolls for journaling can feed into your weekly productivity score.

Getting the Most Out of Story Mode
- Set a Monday reminder — make faction selection part of your weekly planning so you never miss the window.
